Muddy Point Blog

Wow!  I enjoyed this weeks presentations.  I need to share what I learned with my coworkers.  Have a blessed week!

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Dr. Brown's presentation. I also noticed that he mentioned TurnItIn, but I did not give it nearly as much thought as you did because I have been using it since my undergraduate studies, so I am familiar with it. I can see how teachers would be hesitant to implement it and use it if they have not been trained to use it, which seems to be a consistent theme with all technology. When teachers aren't trained properly, the new technologies are not utilized. I think that you have a good idea about teaching teachers to use TurnItIn and use it effectively in the classroom. I hope that they are receptive to this and to the other technology teaching you do, because if I remember correctly, you are in an area with limited Internet access, which could make your job very difficult.

    I have posted this resource for others in the class but I think you might be able to use it in your district :)

    Copyright: Actually, EETT federal legislation requires school districts to have a plan for educating students in copyright violation. Sadly, the plan tends to be in the document and not strictly enforced in districts - just too much to do.
    I suggest you look at the following resource:

    Thank you for sharing your concerns in regards to educating teachers on the use of tools available to detect plagiarism. In the Ask the Expert video, Dr. David Brown discussed how “sixty-percent of students cheat in their college history” (Brown, 2013). Although this number is quite high, it may be even higher if all students were truthful during the survey. While creating my research project in EDUC 631, being able to use free online tools at sites like www.plagtracker.com, www.grammarly.com, and turnitin.com enabled me to assess how my instructors viewed the originality of my work. Perhaps part of educating your staff will also include tools to equip students with sites to check their work prior to turning it in.
